HSBC Partners with HKSTP Company to Promote Digital Transformation with API Programme

(Hong Kong, 13 July 2020) – The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited (HSBC) announced its collaboration with the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation to launch the “API EcoBooster Program.” This initiative aims to expedite the digital transformation of traditional banking by inviting global startups and tech companies to develop solutions related to lending services, transactions, credit cards, electronic payments, and customer record management.

The program will accept applications and kick off a six-week collaborative development phase in early September. Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation CEO, Mr Albert Wong Hak-keung, indicated that 30 startup teams will be selected to participate. They will have access to over 100 API data sandbox environments and simulated data capabilities to test their API development results. Selection criteria will focus on the innovativeness of ideas and their alignment with market needs, particularly addressing challenges HSBC faces in expanding its open banking initiatives.

Anita Li, Managing Director, Head of Digital & Strategic Business Change, Commercial Banking, Hong Kong, HSBC, , emphasized that the API EcoBooster Program is open to all tech companies interested in improving banking services, not just those in the fintech sector. She also noted that, to protect customer privacy, the data used during the program will be virtual data created by beNovelty, rather than real customer information, as the initiative is intended solely for testing purposes.
